It was a great time at the 2024 WriterCon!
Not only did I meet so many great people, from actors to poets to novelists to publishers to first-time writers, but I made new connections and had a blast the entire time!
Oh, I also won 1st place in two categories:
Play/Screenplay
Published Poetry
Not bad for a first-time attendee. And from what I understand, this was the first year for this category of play/screenplay.
I wrote this screenplay with my friend Ryan Brandt. This is a major win for us in our screenplay writing careers.
And a gigantic win for both my poetry writing and overall publishing for all my books!
Also, they said they had numerous requests for an awards category for stage and film writers, which is where the “play” (theater/stage) and “screenplay” (film/movie) apply, for a few years now, and they are so supportive of all writers that they added this often elusive category in writing competitions. And I am so happy they listened!

The screenplay, however, has not been produced as of yet, nor is it posted anywhere; therefore, it is classified as unpublished.
Oh, yeah, I was the only person to win first place in more than one category, too!!!
I am so happy that I attended WriterCon, not just for the connections I made and the first place awards, but also for the education I received from all the speakers and the incredible friendliness of everyone there. Yes, everyone. That includes the speakers and presenters. So many talented, highly successful people—people often considered out of most people’s leagues to even speak to type of people—who joyfully took the time to talk to anyone and everyone who wanted to talk. They even passed on so much industry advice to help all writers regardless of the stage they are at in their writing careers.
Professionals like voice artist extraordinaire Connor Quinn, voice artist and actor Anthony Powell, the cream of the crop screenwriter Bob Saenz, and many, many other wonderful people.
I have already signed up for next year's WriterCon! And I highly encourage you to keep your eyes open for their announcements, and when the sign-up is open again, sign up too!
